His Beatitude said: "It was a distinct honor and a great privilege to meet with the Holy Father today. I wanted him to know that Ukraine is joyous and ready to receive His Holiness." The Holy Father's visit to the Ukrainian cities of Kyiv and Lviv will mark an important milestone in the history of Ukraine. In Lviv alone over one and a half million people are expected to gather to celebrate the visit of the Pope. Cardinal Husar said: "I, along with all of our hierarchy and faithful are looking forward to the opportunity to welcome Him in less than two weeks."

Cardinal Husar and the Pope have known each other for many years. On February 22, 2001 he was honored with the title of cardinal in a ceremony at St. Peter's (pictured here).
